Dr. Meshack Chemutai
Medical Doctor
Dr. Meshak Chemutai was born in Kween District, Kaptoyoy Subcounty, Uganda, and was raised in Kapsokwony, Kenya for a few years before returning to Uganda.
He earned his degree in Human Medicine and Surgery from Kampala International University where he also earned his MBChB degree. He interned at Mbale Regional Referral Hospital in all fields and volunteered at Kapchorwa General Hospital. Dr. Chemutai also practiced at Hoima Regional Referral Hospital, Mubende Regional Referral Hospital, and Jinja Regional Referral Hospital while still in training. He continually participates in online training.
Dr. Chemutai says, “As a medical officer, I find immense joy and satisfaction in making a positive impact on people’s lives. There is no greater reward than seeing my patients recover from illnesses or injuries and knowing that I played a role in their healing journey. I love the moment when a patient’s face lights up with a smile, or when they express gratitude for my care and compassion. It is a privilege to be in a position where I can make a difference, no matter how small, in someone’s life. The trust my patients place in me is a constant source of motivation and inspiration.”
He says, “I also find joy in the continual learning and growth that comes with being a medical professional and learning from the experience of our COO, Dr. Maggie Sabay. The field of medicine is constantly evolving, and I embrace the challenge of staying up-to-date with the latest knowledge and advancement.
“Finally, what fills my heart with joy and satisfaction is when I see mothers holding their newborn babies in their arms, beaming with pride and gratitude, the joy of bringing new life into the world.”
He says, “I am a passionate advocate for community health and wellness. I strongly believe that healthcare extends beyond the hospital corridor and into the communities we serve.”
Dr. Chemutai is also a musician. He says, “Music nourishes my soul. I find solace in the creative expression that music provides. I enjoy playing the piano, and writing and producing songs that inspire hope and resilience. Music has a way of transcending boundaries and connecting us in ways that words alone cannot. When I am not in scrubs, you can find me playing piano, leading worship at my church, or performing in a concert or gathering. My music reflects my faith, my values, and my experiences as a healthcare provider. I strongly believe that music has the power to heal emotional wounds, comfort the grieving, and bring people together in times of joy and sorrow. One day, I have to release an album that inspires others to find hope and healing through music. I dream of using music to create healthcare awareness and fund healthcare initiatives that benefit cancer awareness and medical education in marginalized communities.”
He hopes that patients and visiting teams will get to know him as a musician as well as a healthcare provider—“a musician who believes strongly in the transformative power of music to heal, inspire, and connect us all.”
Dr. Chemutai is passionate about reducing maternal and neonatal mortality. He uses social media to encourage community members to receive antenatal care, have obstetric ultrasonography, and deliver in the hospital. He says, “It is important to train midwives to take part in the same call.”
He concludes, “Thanks to the CEO Mr. Peter Ole-Sabay and COO Dr. Maggie Sabay and Friends of Bukwo Global for such a community-transforming initiative. I thank Dr. Mike Nelson from the USA, who has inspired me to love the field of OB/GYN.”
